These products can be coloured, however, the range of pigments available are restricted within the EU and other countries. Carotenes, curcumin and annatto are the only permitted colours in these applications in the EU. Other pigments are permitted in other countries.

The pigments most commonly used in butter and spreads are annatto and carotenes.
